The Sign

James came up with an idea for an entrace sign to our theme camp and told me what it needed to be like. He said it needed to have a thirty-foot span and be sixteen feet high so that the Unimog could pass through it into camp. The only catch was that he wanted it constructed out of 1x10's and 2x4's so it wouldn't be too heavy for transporting. So, using only those sizes and a maximum length of ten feet per piece, I designed it. And Loren (see below) took my design and constructed it and kudos to him. After that we added two and a half foot high letters wrapped with rope light and what you see below is the end product. It would never fly anywhere else but on the playa, but it did its job and withstood a number of sandstorms. The worst looking moment was during the lifting when the sign bowed unbelievably. I arrived right after so missed that part but if you click on the link for the video below, you can see how much it bowed.

This is right before the sign was lifted into place. You can see a video
of the lifting by clicking on the picture above.

The sign at night.

Me talking to Loren, probably discussing if this thing is actually
going to hold.
